Purpose
The Y-Bler Buonya Scholarship Fund was created honor the life of Y-Bler Buonya, a Montagnard Freedom Fighter who died
tragically before his time. Y-Bler wanted more than anything, to learn, in hopes that he
could someday use his knowledge to help his Montagnard people. This scholarship seeks to
promote the love of learning that Y-Bler so passionately demonstrated.
Fundraising Goal
The fundraising goal for the Y-Bler Buonya Scholarship is $50,000, which will enable it
become an endowment and give forever. Consequently, the first scholarship will not be
awarded until the $50,000 goal has been met.
Scholarship Uses
Once awarded, the scholarship can be used for any educational expenses at an institution
of higher learning. The scholarship is not limited to tuition, but can be used to pay for
any educational expense (i.e. room, board, books, supplies, etc...).
Eligibility
Although Montagnards are extremely encouraged to apply, this scholarship is not limited
solely to Montagnards or those of Montagnard decent. It will instead be awarded to the
person who has demonstrated their sincere desire and concern for the Montagnard people
both in the United States and abroad. The scholarship aims to aide this person in becoming
a champion for the Montagnard people--a goal that Y-Bler tried so hard to accomplish.
Selection Criteria
Various factors will be taken into consideration when awarding the scholarship, such as
past academic performance, extracurricular activities, involvement in Montagnard issues,
likelihood of future success in helping the Montagnard people.
Once the goal of $50,000 has been raised and all applications have been accepted, a
committee at the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro will select the most deserving
recipient of the Y-Bler Buonya Scholarship.
How to Make a Donation
1. Online using a credit or debit card at the Community
Foundation's secure website. Please go to

to make this online donation. A confirmation letter will be sent to your
address should you require documentation for tax purposes.
2. Mail a check to the Community Foundation
of Greater Greensboro to the address below.
